Idioms is the best way to know other cultures and personalities. When you use them you are making reference to the place where you come from, because you are talking as your people do; that's why Idioms in every part of the world are unique, not everyone will understand what you are reffering to. Some people use Idioms with other purposes, for example as a code to communicate with others, is like creating another language where just two people understand what they are talking, but others use them to make fun of the people who don't understand. In english and spanish exist a lot of idioms that we can give a lot of meanings, but those idioms only have one definition, down here I am going to write some Idioms in english for you as an example....
- All that glitters is not gold = No todo lo que brilla es oro
Not everything is how it looks like
-It's not my cup of tea = No es lo mio
That is not my bussines / Is not my problem
-To beat around (about) the bush = Andarse con rodeos
When you talk to much and you don't go to the point
-A chip off the old block = De tal palo tal astilla
When you are exactly the same as someone else
-To kick the bucket = Estirar la pata
When you are really tired or when someone dies

ResponderEliminarNice post, I agree with you, sometimes 'Idioms' are used as a code in little groups. I would like to share this one, everybody use it (specially in relationships): 'Kiss and make up' that means: 'Borrón y cuenta nueva'... remember, in English, languages begin in capital letters.
ResponderEliminarPeople use idioms in their language to communicate better and to feel confidence and I believe it is correct to express ideas using idioms, that is a good way to feel like a native.
