A teacher or maybe a... ?

You should be wondering about the title and the answer is in my friend who I interviewed. Mariana use to study our career, actually she just studied one semester but she regret because being a language teacher did not fullfill her expectations. She loves languages, but she said that in our career what you see the most is the Pedagogy and both languages are not so demanding as they will have to be.

I asked her if she would like to teach literature someday here in Colombia and she said no, because here we are mired in terms of education and if we want to evolve we would have to make a big effort to change. Other of the reasons why she would like to work out of here, is because she thinks that english is a big tool for what she's going to work on. I asked if she would like to work as a teacher who teaches Literature but she's not sure about that, "Could be a posibility, I shall think it" Said mariana.

Mariana considers that being a teacher is something quite difficult because you have to deal with the knowledge of many people, and in your hands is their learning and you´re the one who decides to change it...that's her main doubt about being a teacher, but she thinks that at least she could try it.

Time for you to answer...

1. Does the government give more importance to pedagogy than languages ? why ?

2. Is difficult to teach under Colombian rules or statements ? why ?

3. Do you consider that our career focus more in pedagogy than languages

  1. 1. did you said goberment? ahahaha they don't give a shit about education.
    2. Of course it is. As you know my friend we have to do and deal with a lot of stuff that in many cases it shouldn't be our responsability. Even if you see through our history of teachers you can see how the goberment coplexed us with bad payments and with a very difficult access to be better in the academic progress just to control us.
    3. I think that our bachelor is a hodgepodge. They talk a lot about pedagogy but we don't really study that much pedagogy. We don't even know what kid is, now what are we going to know about pedagogy?

  2. 1. Agree with Kaiser, but let me tell you that pedagogy is very important and I am very greatful with my career because they teach us a lot about being not just someone that know languages, also how to be a critic teacher.
2.Of course it is, because Colombian standards pretend that every student learn equal.
    3. I think it is balanced.

  3. Hello, Sebas, I hope you are doing well. what an interesting interview.
I know it is what Mariana thinks and what she wants to achieve, I respect that, and I know perfectly that most of colombian schools are mired and stagnant in terms of literature and reading, but I think the solution is not always go elsewhere, we can not act like selfish (I am not saying she is acting like that), I also think (e.g.) that if I did not have a good teacher in whatever subject, I can be a good teacher for my students in that subject and make a change, it is a little change, but I am starting with something and I am making a difference. We always want a change but then we sit down and do nothing for it, just wait it changes alone. It is not enough to complain, that is what I think.
Now I am going to answer your questions:
    1. Sometimes, I think that 'pedagogy' becomes a game of repetition.
    2. Sometimes it is, I see it, government do not take into account there is a lot of contexts in our country, we can not expect to teach in the same way in the capital, Bogotá, than in Leticia (Amazonas).
    3. Yes, I know we are going to be teachers, we are teachers now, pedagogy is essential, but it would be more interesting if it focus more in human being and (I do not know what to write here) his/her/their thinking.

Postdata: I am sorry for this will.
    Good picture...

  4. 1- Maybe government doesn't give too much importance to things related with education in general, but fortunately it seems there is a change. We agree with Tatiana, pedagogy is very important specially if we want to be teachers, we think that it is the clue of being excellent teachers.
2- It is, government just want to educate students for behaving as puppets
3- It could be, by the way... pedagogy is important, we expect the others semesters be more focus in english

  5. Mistə Sebas.
    How do you do?

    Many thanks for interviewing Mariana.
She's a lovely human being. I really enjoy spend time with her.
Well, this is my quest answers.

    1. In base of my experience at school and now on my degree, I consider government fails on both. When I was in school-time, my teachers taught a lot of English (basis), specially my eleventh grade teacher. Nowadays I'm being taught in terms of pedagogy and not too much in languages. However, I cannot say that government doesn't really care about us because it'd be a whole lie. The system lacks on many things but It's not meant that everything is bad

    2. As once I said in Avendaño's class, the rules made a border between teachers and students. Now everything is illegal or lacks of moral. Therefore many teens are behaving like that and then the government, specially the Colombian society, wanders why this last generation is acting under their own rules.

    3. It focuses on pedagogy meanly and then in language. However, I consider that language learning process has to be by our own as well. That's the faculty wants to. It wants us to construct knowledge by our own due to it's not only important what professors teach but we as self-learners do in terms of language acquiring.

  6. I will not answer your questions, but no because I don't want to, I just feel like I have no enough knowledge in education yet.
But about your interview great job, I respect the point of view of our friend Mariana and you did very well putting that feelings in words

  7. 1- Yep, pedagogy is over languages for the government
2- Yes, teaching is now a way to control, for the government (actually it has always been)
3-it seems we wont get to practice in a classroom because schools now have to pay social security (or something like that) to practicants, so I think they would rather not allow any practicant to enter, wich means.... Not so much Languages and now less Pedagogy

  8. 1.I don't know but I think the governmet should have a count both structures to build the education
2.thats depends but nobody said it was easy "couldplay"
    3. Yes cause we don't have the enough knowledge about languages and if we want to be a teacher of languages we must know a lot about it

    ResponderEliminar
  9. 1. Yes of course , a very clear example this University and that which is private . Also if they know that education can change many things they will not do.
    2. I do not know , have not had the experience of teaching under these rules or statements, I would have to wait to see how it is.
    3. Yeah right, I think they should give importance to both but we will leave that bilingual teachers more.

  10. Lovely lady you've got there mon ami. There can be any kind of amazing teacher teaching every kind of amazing subjects we've got nowadays, and literature is maybe one of the most amazing, because is one of those that help you traveling just without moving from classroom, incredible.
1.I think that they really do, but it's important always to deepen into the way wer form the people from our country, based into our context by going always further in knowledge production so we can support things like languages learning, considerating more than 2 or 3 languages per average citizen

    1. Excuse me, I published accidentally without 2 and 3 Q.
2.Well, at least we have the right of using any kind of method, so even though you have suposed topics, at least you can teach them in ways you consider significative.
3.Of course, I think because of our humanistic university but they also focus on building initiative on us as teachers, so is our uty to deepen in our knowledge. If we love it, we will always want to meet more things about it.
      Thank you Mate, great work
